北品川・南品川
In the Edo period, Shinagawa-shuku prospered as a lodging station on the Tokaido and became a popular, easily accessible tourist destination for the common people of Edo. It was known as “Shinagawa in the south” to complement Yoshiwara in the north, with numerous establishments where visitors could spend time with beautiful women. As the first post town from Nihonbashi on the Tokaido’s fifty-three stations, “Shinagawa-shuku” is now home to the district’s largest event, held along the approximately 2-kilometer road that still remains from the Edo period.
江戸時代、品川宿は東海道往来の宿として、江戸庶民の手軽に行ける観光地として栄えました。
北の吉原に対して南の品川と呼ばれたくらい、きれいどころがずらっと揃っていて、そういう女性方と遊べる貸座敷が軒を連ねていました。
東海道五十三次、日本橋から数えて一番目の宿場町「品川宿」江戸時代から残る約2kmの道で開催される区内最大級のイベントです。
