In the Edo period, Shinagawa-shuku prospered as a lodging station on the Tokaido and became a popular, easily accessible tourist destination for the common people of Edo. It was known as “Shinagawa in the south” to complement Yoshiwara in the north, with numerous establishments where visitors could spend time with beautiful women. As the first post town from Nihonbashi on the Tokaido’s fifty-three stations, “Shinagawa-shuku” is now home to the district’s largest event, held along the approximately 2-kilometer road that still remains from the Edo period.
江戸時代、品川宿は東海道往来の宿として、江戸庶民の手軽に行ける観光地として栄えました。
北の吉原に対して南の品川と呼ばれたくらい、きれいどころがずらっと揃っていて、そういう女性方と遊べる貸座敷が軒を連ねていました。
東海道五十三次、日本橋から数えて一番目の宿場町「品川宿」江戸時代から残る約2kmの道で開催される区内最大級のイベントです。

Join us for a Zazen Meditation Tournament at the historic Isshinji Temple in Kita-Shinagawa, a renowned site for spiritual training. This event offers a unique opportunity to calm your mind, clear away distractions, and deepen your connection with yourself. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced practitioner, everyone is welcome to participate. In the serene surroundings of the temple, take a break from the busy pace of everyday life and find peace and relaxation.
After the meditation, there will be a special session with the head monk where participants can ask questions and learn more about the teachings of Zen and its practice.
心を静め、雑念を取り払い、自己との向き合いを深める。初心者の方から経験者まで、どなたでもご参加いただけます。静かな寺院の中で、心身ともにリフレッシュし、忙しい日常から離れて心を落ち着けるひとときをお過ごしください。
